Grinding Discs

ditting grinding discs have a long life expectancy with regular wear. The following chart is based on normal grinding on a medium setting. Life expectancy will shorten with the finer grinds simply because the discs will be working harder and wearing out at a faster rate than with coarser grinds.

Warning: After-market discs are in the market and have been known to cause operating problems with the grinder and have also been linked to damage in the grinding chambers. The use of after-market discs will immediately void the warranty.

  Change discs after approximately:
804 Models 15,000 lbs
805 Models 15,000 lbs
903 Models 20,000 lbs
1203 Models 25,000 lbs
1403 Models 35,000 lbs
1800 Model 100,000 lbs
KE640 Espresso 3,000 lbs

This is only an approximation of when discs should be changed. You will become more familiar with use if the discs are wearing down and should be changed.

Some signs of wear are:

bulletthe grind is coming out coarse no matter what setting you are using;
bulletthe coffee is coming out hot;
bulletthe coffee continues to clog up inside the machine;
bulletif you cannot get the correct fineness on the specified setting; or
bulletif the grinder seems to be grinding slower than normal.

We have service steps here to assist you in installing new discs into your grinder.

Most discs can usually be resharpened a maximum of three times if they have been properly cared for. We will resharpen 1800 discs no more than two times. We recommend you have two sets of discs to use: one in the grinder and one on hand as a spare set.

bulletIf discs are not installed properly and are worn down unevenly, they may not be resharpenable.
bulletSometimes discs are left in the grinder too long and are past the point of resharpening.
bulletIf a foreign object has fallen into the grinding chamber amd caused damage to the discs, the discs will not be accepted for resharpening.

Note: Discs for the KE640 espresso grinder, and discs for the KFG and KFH
models are not resharpenable. Newer MACHINED discs for the 804, 805 and 903
models are also not resharpenable.

To order resharpened discs, we must first receive your dull discs to measure and confirm that we are able to resharpen them. We are not able to send you resharpened discs prior to seeing and measuring your dull discs.
